Allen Designs and Builds a 1/5th Scale Fox MDM1

Allen Elliott describes the progress so far and the reasons for his current building project.

I wanted a scale glider, but I wanted one that would be as great to fly,as it was to watch.

I chose the Fox MDM1 as the one.

Most of the scale Fox's I could find were just too big for general slope use, a 6m glider may be great to fly but on the slopes of Eastbourne is just not very pratical, I wanted something 3 metres or under, I looked everywhere but could not find what I wanted.

I decided to look for a plan and make my own, So the hunt started for a plan, Suprisingly I could not find a good plan either.

In the end I bought a plan from france that had little more than scales and sized I would need, I used this plan to make my own plan, every time the boss was out and every lunch I was working on Autocad to create my own FOX plan

I decided to go for a ply and balsa built up fuselage and a foam veneer wing. I have included the ribs for a built up wing and the templates for a foam wing in my plans incase someone else wants them.

I went to a company called foamwings.co.uk to get my faom cores cut, wings, stabs and fin

My next door neightbour has allowed me to use his garage for the Fox build giving me dedicated place just for the Fox

I had all the compicated formers and other important bits laser cut by a company called Belair

All ready to get started
