Wind directions - NE,
Bopeep Is one of the best flying sites the Southdowns has to offer.
On arrival you will find good parking and easy access to three/ four flying sites...all for north east wind direction,
We have an unwritten rule that the para/hand gliders use the slope to the east of the car park, if you walk through the two gates to the west of the car park you will find two good bowls the first faces a tiny bit more east than the second an tends not to offer quite as much lift, but of a busy day can offer the only part of clear sky.
Para/hand gliders
The paragliders tend to only fly between 7 and 15mph so can be avoided altogether, handgliders can fly in greater winds speeds but seem to be more considerate to modellers
There are stricked guide lines set out for shared air space, you should introduce yourself on arrival and set out clear boundaries of launching and landing areas, you will find that the paragliders rarely avoid or airspace and are unaware of our lack of depth perception and tunnel vision, we would recommend you always fly shared airspace with a look out to make pilots aware of incoming crafts, there height and trajectory.
Bopeep is located just off the A27 between Firle and Alfriston, travelling west it is the third left turn after the Alfriston roundabout, note well on exiting Bopeep lane you have zero viability on a VERY busy road .
