Minus 0.9m Micro Planeur (Glider)

Fancy having a go at micro gliding?

Link to Flash RC

The glider is a bargain at 24.90 Euros. (£22.00)

It comes in two formats, the Arco and this one the Thermic. The plan is in French and Franglish; the images are a little difficult to make out as everything is printed in green on green paper.

The manufacturers say it can be made in an evening using cyano…however it took me several weeks of evenings of PVA and cyano in which I learnt and forgot some more French.
All parts are laser cut and are identifiable on the plan.
The wing construction involves a lot of sanding to get the profile.
All push rods and accessories are supplied in the kit.

The glider needs three micro servos, Ripmax SD100 and a 360mA Lipo battery.
I am using the Spektrum AR6100E DSM2 receiver, which only weighs 4.4 grams, which means adding a small amount of lead to the nose. You can see a detailed account of the build at:

http://pierre.rondel.free.fr/images2/MinusAccro/index.htm

I had to buy a charger (IMAX B6) for the Lipo battery and found a very reasonably priced one on Ebay  £28.98 including power supply and postage. This has already proved to be an asset when charging my other gliders as it auto stops when the battery is fully charged. I now know that 20mins of flying my Predator uses 150mA.

Allen's Brio Lockout

I was up Bo peep, the sky was its usual busy self, had been flying the Prodij, re maiden for the Sunshine open just to trim, gulp got an airing, then the Pike brio, couple of turns, no problems all good, as the sky was busy I thought I would fly a bit further out, as I did COMPLETE LOCKOUT nothing not a sausage, I just watched her fly off in to the distance, if it had not been for a flock of birds leave in a hurry I may have never found the wreckage, she had nearly manage to clear the small wooded area it the bottom right on the bowl, hit the treetops of the last few trees and gone spiralling into the field behind

Gary Parkers Low Low pass

Gary was trying to get nice and low between me (Allen) with the camera, and himself, in the hope I would get a lovely picture of his Erwin with him in the background. Infact I did get some lovely shots, but this one topped them all as the wings stopped but the fuse did not

Allen's Multiplex Profi 3030 goes 2.4GHz

Ooooo new shiny box Ooooo Goodies
Not as easy to fit as i would have liked Glad the aerial lead just about reached

It has increased response, with a switch to slow the response as most servos are twitchy at high rate

the adapter lead that allows you to easily switch from 35 to 2.4 is still on back order and they hope to have in a few weeks, but i could not wait and have set it up for now to have a go.

Range check was great, I gave up trying to out range it in the end.

The RX has two Rx's inside it, one for each antenna to optimize reception.

For anyone considering this conversion I have one warning, if you want your profi to be 35 and 2.4,

DO NOT REMOVE THE COPPER PLATE

as the instructions tell you, this is to do a full 2.4 conversion and will damage the 35mHz reception.

Allen's Review

There are only two real problems with the Profi, first is the size and weight, nothing much can be done about that I'm afraid, but second is the signal response time is very slow by today's standards.

The new 2.4 module has not only dealt with this problem but taken it to new levels.

I was up the Longman in a nice 20mph wind with the Gulp foam slope racer and every stick input made me grin, I am so impressed with the new module and can wait to stick it the hands of a pilot that is used to the sloppy response of the old Profi, so if you see me up the slope with the Gulp and your interested in doing this to your profi or even if your thinking of going 2.4 I'll let you take the reins for a bit.

The only down side I can find, is that it makes the 35MHz feel so sloppy when you change back.
